Dear Friends:

Last month, the General Assembly delayed the implementation of a law that attempted to strengthen Workers' Compensation laws as they relate to the construction industry and the use of independent contractor for the purpose of work comp premiums.

The Consumer and Employee Affairs Committee, of which I am secretary, will begin proceedings next Wednesday to hear testimony from those affected by the proposed legislation and to accept other suggestions for consideration.

The witness list for next week currently includes:

• A small contractor
• A large contractor
• A large manufacturer
• An insurance agent specializing in Workers' Compensation policies

If you are an affected industry, other than those previously listed and would like to testify before the committee, please contact my office at 615/741-2804 by noon on Thursday, February 4th.

Should you have specific questions or suggestions, please feel free to submit those to my office either by fax: (615) 253-0322 or email: rep.donna.rowland@capitol.tn.gov and I will present those to the committee for consideration.
